![]() The drippy lyrics describe a stoner’s inner torment, but it’s hard to believe Cudi is very tormented, especially when he’s toking up. Unfortunately, the much-ballyhooed collaboration with MGMT and Ratatat, “Pursuit of Happiness,” is exactly the kind of overproduced rock-rap ballad that will no doubt invite the disdain of the Pitchfork tastemakers that Cudi has been courting. He can switch from rap to soul as easily as he can crack a joke: In his memorable tribute to marijuana, “Maui Wowie,” he says he’s “on a mission to get lifted like John Legend and shit.” But from its bombastic title to Common’s annoying narration, Man on the Moon vies for both a bigger pop platform and indie credibility. It wasn’t very ambitious, but Kid Named Cudi announced one of the most promising, likeable new sounds in hip-hop. Which made his tribute to DJ AM at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards a lot more tolerable, if less entertaining, than Kanye West’s already-notorious tantrum during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video. On his debut album, Man on the Moon: The End of Day, he says, “I got 99 problems, and they all bitches/Wish I was Jigga, man, carefree living/But I’m not Sean or Martin Louie/I’m the Cleveland nigga rolling with them Brooklyn boys.” The rest of the album, like the rapper’s year-old mixtape, A Kid Named Cudi, is full of those kinds of flippant one-liners (“It’s all said and done, and my cock’s been sucked”), but like his Midwestern brethren the Cool Kids, who share a juvenile moniker as well as a taste for retro hip-hop, Cudi genuinely seems to just be having fun. Extras include demos, unreleased songs and more.Kid Cudi doesn’t want you to take him seriously. The first disc contains the actual album in its entirety, while the second disc contains extras. “Speedin Bullet 2 Heaven” is a double disc album. However, after listening to the songs on the album a couple of times, they begin to make more sense and become more of a pleasurable listen. They express extremely dark emotions, which can be hard for a listener to relate to. He went as far as to announce through Twitter that he is dedicating this album to those who suffer from mental disorders.Īt first glance, some songs are unpleasant to listen to. Throughout the years, Cudi has opened up about the struggles he has had to endure due to a mental health disorder, which has led to depression as well as suicidal thoughts. It is possibly the deepest inside look at the dark and clouded mind of Cudi. He experimented on this album to express a different type of sound. ![]() This album is different from anything that Cudi has ever done before. Cudi is baring his soul to anyone who will listen. It is all about expression and about the message he’s trying to send his readers. The album does not contain any electronic sounds. This album is entirely self produced by Cudi and also has more of an alternative punk rock vibe to it with the use of only instruments such as bass and guitar, which Cudi played himself on the album. “I’ve ripped my heart out and carved it into tiny pieces of musical madness.” “This album is 100 percent the purest form of my artistic self,” he said. Via Twitter, Cudi described to his fans what this album would be like. If this album shows one thing about Cudi as an artist, it is that he will always find ways to express himself in whatever unique and strange way he deems fit. Although it is rough around the edges and messy in its format, it is also incredibly unique and invokes powerful emotions in anyone that will listen to it with an open mind. Many people, fans or not, describe this album as noisy, pointless and pure trash. He says things such as “some days I hurt myself to distract me from the distraction,” and “madness fixing sadness.” Throughout the entire song, Cudi uses vivid and strong language in order to depict what he is feeling. In the single “Confused,” Cudi is describing his confusion over his own identity. All of his confusion turns into madness, and he goes on to say that he distracts himself from all of that through physical pain as well as substance abuse. In the new album, he is more emotionally exposed than ever before. Kid Cudi is an American rapper, singer and composer who rose to fame after the debut of his first album, “A Kid Named Cudi,” in 2008. In all of his albums, Cudi has depicted an immense amount of emotion and “Speedin Bullet 2 Heaven” is no exception. ![]() Scott Ramon Segura Mescudi, better known as Kid Cudi, released his fifth studio album, “Speedin Bullet 2 Heaven,” Dec.
